Submissions now accepted for teens' original videos that discourage distracted driving
Washington – CTIA Wireless Foundation is excited to announce that it is now accepting entries for the fifth-annual Drive Smart Digital Short Contest. Through a partnership with By Kids For Kids, the Foundation created the Drive Smart contest to inspire teenagers to create compelling short videos to discourage their peers and adults from distracted driving.
The Grand Prize Winner will be honored with a $10,000 scholarship. Scholarships will also be awarded to two Runners-Up ($5,000 each) and three Finalists ($1,000 each). These top six entries will also be able to nominate an inspirational teacher or mentor, who will also be recognized with a cash prize. Video entries will be judged on criteria such as creativity, effective messaging and potential impact.
Starting today through January 6, 2019, students ages 13-18 in the United States, D.C. and Puerto Rico can enter their original videos about the dangers of distracted driving by visiting www.DriveSmartNow.com. Winners will be announced in April 2019, which is Distracted Driving Awareness Month.
"We're excited to launch the fifth year of the Drive Smart contest," said Dori Kreiger, CTIA Wireless Foundation Executive Director. "Promoting safe driving is a priority for CTIA Wireless Foundation, and this program gives teens a platform to use creativity to educate others about this important issue."
Motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for teens ages 15 to 20 in the U.S., and far too many of those crashes involve distracted driving. To help educate all Americans about the dangers of distracted driving, CTIA Wireless Foundation created the Drive Smart program in 2014.
Students, educators and parents can learn more about the program and eligible teens can enter their original videos at www.drivesmartnow.com. In addition to the contest, the website has information about the dangers of distracted driving, classroom activities and videos from past winners.
Students are encouraged to enter early as there will be weekly random drawings for $100 gift cards for submitted entrants during the first seven weeks of the contest.
